KNIGHT CROSS WINNER M42 FIELD TUNIC

SOLD!

Wonderful combat M42 named tunic for a Oberfeldwebel (non-commissioned officer).

Field-grey, mid war wool/cotton/rayon blend construction field blouse with a lay down collar features a vertical, six button front closure.

The field blouse has two non-pleated front pockets with pointed edged button down flaps.

The right breast has a machine woven, late war pattern, national eagle in matte grey rayon threads on a woven, green rayon base. The eagle is hand sewn to the tunic, it has a matching patina with the rest and the thread used is the right period one made in cotton, but is it possible the eagle could at some point be replaced. Late pattern collar tabs, hand stitched to the collar. Shoulder straps show white piping for Infantry units.

The tunic shows a replaced piece of the breast right pocket, very possibly a field repair, and a small damage on the left side of the collar (just above the collar tab) where is visible the internal structure of the collar (see pictures).

Internal cotton/rayon lining is complete, and size markings are still visible on the rigt chest.

Over the markings is still attached a cloth tag with the name of the owner "Fleck H." and the name of the unit. Under the tag is appointed in black ink the last unit in which Fleck served: 2./Grenadier-Regiment 270 (of the 93. Infanterie-Division).

Hermann Fleck was awarded with the Knight Cross of the Iron Cross on January 9th, 1945 with the rank of Feldwebel with the following motivation:

"The Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross to Feldwebel Fleck, Zugführer in the 2./Grenadier-Regiment 270. On the 29.12.1944, following an enemy penetration, he recaptured the new frontline gap of 150 metres with just a few men in a daring counterthrust launched on his own initiative. Thereafter he held off the renewed enemy onslaught with the same few men. Feldwebel Fleck comes from the Saarland and is a gardener in civilian life."

Tuinc shows some usage and has a great patina all over it. A worn and extremely nice uniform. A M42 is indeed scarce to find on market.

An impressive NCO combat tunic belonged to a Knight Cross Winner is not something you see everyday.
