Here a prototype award (only 2 examples are known, one come directly out of a GI photo album) made in zinc, die struck and unfinished.
The award is uncut, it looks the die was corrupted so perhaps that is why no finished examples exist. They were possibly found at the Deschler factory.
Interestingly that the die has been cut in striations which are visible in the strike and there could be a relation with the very late war Juncker Kriegsmarine war badges from which the dies were produced using a similar technique.
