PRIEST VISOR CAP GROUPING

SOLD!

This is an awesome grouping, preserved after 80 years in an incredible condition, belonged to a priest that served in the Wehrmacht as military chaplain during the Second World War.

The group consists of several personal items belonged to a priest possibly named Wirges A., the only name found on his personal prayer booklet.

Here is the list of the items that belonged o him:

- his personal Visor cap, with the correct purple piping in wool, that shows the expected usage, has a couple of minor moth holes but everything is in place; the sewatband is still complete and machine sewn to the cap, the lining is full and shows some tears (see pictures) caused by the grease or sweat; on the front side eagle and cockade are the aluminium type and the cross is sewn with old cotton thread; overall patina is great;

- his personal armband, multi-piece privately made;

- his personal cross, still in great condition, with an excellent patina, shows some small cracks on the black wooden parts, typical for the its 80 year, and still keep the original finish; it is marked by the famous maker Juncker of Berlin;

- His War Merit Cross 2nd class with Swords, with ribbon and ribbon bar (cross is missing the eyelet);

- his prayers booklet with leather cover;

- a wooden case with oaks and leaves ornaments where all these items were stored;

- his framed studio portrait.

A military chaplain visor cap is something rare to see, and find one in a so great shape, really worn during the war, with a group of personal items, is something you can find maybe only one time.

A superb addition to any collection, a museum group.
