WAFFEN-SS LIGHTWEIGHT FIELD TUNIC

Lightweight field service blouse for a Waffen-SS Infanterie Obersturmführer, constructed of a pale brown colored cotton duck, with a dark green badge cloth stand and fall collar, four pleated patch pockets with pronounced points to the pleats, having a five button front and turn back cuffs, the buttons are officer quality painted pebbled steel with finished backs.

The collar has one set of brass hook and eye, insignia includes a bullion made runic tab and a wool rank tab with three zinc rank pips and one litzen, both collar patches have thin silver twisted piping and both are hand sewn into place with thick cotton black thread. Observing the underside of the collar it can be determined that the shadow is matching the SS collar patches.

A matched pair of slip on shoulder boards for an Infanterie Obersturmführer with tongues of black wool are looped through narrow officer-style shoulder board bridles, the boards have the classic type of felt piping, a machine woven SS sleeve eagle is straight machine stitched to the left upper sleeve. The color of the zig-zag thread is faded on the outside.

A East Front Medal ribbon is looped into the second buttonhole and is held with light colored thread, there are loops for three badges on the left breast pocket.

The armpits are reinforced with round pieces of black cotton machine stitched to the tunic; one of them is marked with white ink markings.

Tunic shows wear, much of fading and some age yellowing and stains, but is undamaged. The lower button is reinforced with a small round piece of SS camo fabric.

A scarce Waffen-SS tunic to find on market.
