SS SKI CAP

SOLD!

Here is one of the most rare SS hats.

A SS Ski cap is in fact an absolutely rarity, only a couple of these caps are known.

The SS Ski cap was introduced in 1934 in its firt pattern, then, in 1936 was introduced the second. This cap had the two button fron closure and the insigna pattern was entirely new. The SS pattern skull was worn on the front with a cloth eagle on the side.

It was made in black gabardine and after the outbreak of war in 1939, the SS formally transitioned to Army pattern uniforms and the wear of Ski cap was discontinued and replaced by the mountain cap (Bergmutze).

The specime showed here is made in black gabardine with fron skull and side political, first pattern, eagle. Interior is fulli lined in black ribbed cloth; size and VA 1938 stamps are partially faded but still visible. The full circumference leather sweatband is still in place, quite soft and shows some wear and a couple of small cracks. Under the sweatband is still present a piece of the original oilcloth tag that was, at some point, cut off.

A tag with the name of the owner is hand sewn on the lining.

The cap shows minor wear and a light patina; overall condition is excellent.

An extremely rare cap that you only can handle once in life.

A top shelf historical piece.
