"HuD" TUNIC WITH "STALINGRAD" CYPHERS

This tunic is an amazing piece, belonged to an officer (Leutnant) of the very famous "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" regiment of the 44. Reichs-Grenadier- Division. This division was created in June 1943 after the destruction of the 44 Infanterie-Division remained trapped in Stalingrad. The new division, to which Hitler gave the honorary title of "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" fought in Italy during 1944 and finally in Hungary and Austria in 1945. To commemorate the destruction of the Grenadier-Regiment 134 and the division, which took place in Stalingrad, an emblem was created, which Officers and NCOs pinned on the shoulder boards, which consisted of a Teutonic cross with an eagle regenting a swastika in the center, over the word "Stalingrad".
These crosses are extremely rare as they were produced in very limited numbers and never distributed in large quantities.
The jacket, constructed in gabardine, has machine-stitched collar insignia, shoulder boards of the type sewn into the shoulder and a hand stitched bullione breast eagle. On the shoulder straps there are the "Stalingrad" cypers, die struck made, with "magnetic" metal (iron), and partially blue painted. Crosses shows the typical die stricking flaws (breackage of the thin metal on corners). They are fixed on the shoulder boards by 4 metal prongs. On the right shoulder one prong of the cypher is broken (but still in place). Under the crosses the shadow left by them during these over 70 years is clearly visible.
The jacket is lined internally with gray rayon, some small reparations were made on it (see pictures); the inside pocket still has the label of the "S. Scharrer" tailor's shop in Munich on which the owner's name and the date (November 1944) are handwritten.There are 3 stamps in black ink "Heiler", but their meaning is unknown to me (possibly a theater, a theater company, a depot?).
Tunic shows some usage and minor repairing here and there; overall condition is very good ad the patina is wonderful.
