EARLY (PRE-WAR) SS OVERCOAT

SOLD!

This is an incredibly rare pre-war SS overcoat, made in field-grey wool and dated 1939.

From 1937 all the SS units had the previous earth grey and earth brown overcoat phased out, and replaced with the field grey pattern that was worn in their place.

The one showed here is complete with all his insigna, that have a matching patina and they are sitting into the wool. They look to be perfectly machine period applied.

The shadows and the difference on the wool hair lenght perfectly match with the presence of these collar tabs, that are machine sewn to the collar, as it is machine sewn, with the typical close zig-zag style, the arm eagle. All around the collar there's the silver twisted piping.

Shoulder boards are sewn into the shoulders and they are the rigid type, reinforced with cardboard. The mount a metallic cypher "E", that stands for "Erganzungstelle", or recruiting office. In this case, not being present the cypher with the roman number indicating the district, the officer served in a foreign recruiting office, in occupied territories. Under the "E" is well visible a neat shadow.

The overcoat show complete lining, made in ribbed cotton/rayon, and all the markings are a little faded but still readable: "VA 1939" and size ones, all made in black ink.

The condition is excellent, the overcoat shows a lovely patina, light usage, and it has no tears, no holes.

A pre-war greatcoat of a SS "Erganzungstelle" Officer is indeed very rare to see offered on market.

An amazing piece of history.
